Shah Alam is one of the busiest areas we cover. It is a big, spread-out city: established terrace and semi-detached neighbourhoods, newer gated townships on the north and south edges, and some of the largest industrial zones in Selangor. Termites are a problem in all of them, for slightly different reasons.

If you have found mud tubes along a wall, wings piled near a window after rain, or a door frame that sounds hollow, WhatsApp us a photo with your section or neighbourhood. We'll arrange a free inspection and tell you honestly what we find. If it turns out not to be termites, we'll say so.

Termites in Shah Alam homes: what we usually find

In the older sections, many houses are now several decades old. Original timber door frames, roof trusses, parquet floors and built-in cabinets have had years for termites to find them, and renovations such as rear kitchen extensions often create a gap between old and new slabs that subterranean termites use to get in.

Newer townships like Setia Alam, Bukit Jelutong and parts of Kota Kemuning were built on land that used to be plantation and scrubland. Termite colonies were living in that soil long before the houses arrived. When the land is cleared, colonies go looking for the next food source, which is often the timber, cabinets and wooden flooring inside a new home. We regularly see termite activity in houses that are only a few years old.

Condominiums and apartments are not immune either. Termites can travel up through wall cavities, pipe shafts and planter boxes, so we inspect high-rise units as well as landed property.

Signs of termites in Shah Alam homes

Termites work out of sight, so most homeowners only notice them once there is damage. These are the signs our technicians look for first during an inspection.

  1. 1

    Mud tubes on walls

Pencil-width tunnels of soil on walls, floors, pillars or foundations. Termites build them to stay moist while they travel between the soil and your house.

  2. 2

    Tunnels under tiles and timber

Lift a loose floor tile or move timber that touches the ground and you may find soil trails or galleries underneath. Subterranean termites live and travel underground.

  3. Termite damage on a tree trunk in the grounds of a residential building3

    Holes in garden trees

Termites hollow out tree trunks, stumps and roots. Small holes or soil-filled cracks in a trunk usually mean a colony is close to the house.

  4. Termite mud tubes along a kitchen appliance shelf4

    Soil packed into cracks

Soil pressed into cracks, joints or gaps around door and window frames. Termites seal openings this way to keep out light and dry air.

  5. A termite inside a tunnel it has eaten through timber5

    Hollow-sounding wood

Tap door frames, skirting boards and cabinets. Wood that sounds papery or gives under a screwdriver is often eaten from the inside. You may also hear faint clicking in walls.

  6. Termites in a piece of rotting timber6

    Frass (termite droppings)

Tiny pellets that look like sawdust or coffee grounds, often under furniture or door frames. This points to drywood termites inside the timber.

  7. Flying termites (alates) with long, equal-length wings7

    Discarded wings

Small wings of equal size near windows, lights or door sills. Flying termites (alates, or kelkatu) shed them after swarming, usually at dusk after rain.

How the Sentricon® termite baiting system works

Spraying kills the termites you can see. Sentricon® goes after the whole colony, including the queen, so the problem doesn't come back from the same nest.

  1. 1

    Free inspection

We find where termites are active, how they are getting in and what has been damaged, then give you a quotation. No obligation.

  2. 2

    Bait stations go in

Sentricon® stations are placed in the soil around the building, plus above-ground stations on active spots indoors where needed. There is no flooding of the soil with liquid termiticide.

  3. 3

    Termites carry the bait home

Worker termites feed on the bait and share it through the colony. The active ingredient stops termites from moulting, so the colony gradually dies off, queen included.

  4. 4

    Monitor and protect

We check the stations, top up bait as needed and confirm when activity stops. The stations stay in place to catch any new colony that comes looking for food.

Termite control for factories and warehouses in Shah Alam

We treat termites in industrial and commercial buildings across Shah Alam, using perimeter bait stations that keep working without disrupting operations.

Shah Alam has large industrial areas, and warehouses and factories store exactly what termites eat: pallets, cartons, paper stock and timber packaging. Damage is often found late, when a stack is moved or a shelf collapses.

For these sites we place Sentricon® in-ground stations around the building, add above-ground stations where we find live activity, and monitor on a schedule that fits your operations. We can also help with cockroach and rat control in canteens and loading bays through our pest control services.
