Ampang sits right against the hills on the eastern edge of Kuala Lumpur. It has long-established neighbourhoods, bungalows on the slopes around Bukit Antarabangsa and Taman Melawati, busy townships like Pandan Indah and plenty of condominiums. Hillside greenery is part of what makes Ampang attractive, and it is also why termites are so common here.
If you have found termites, WhatsApp us a photo and your neighbourhood. We'll arrange a free inspection in Ampang and give you a quotation after seeing the problem.
Termites in Ampang homes
Bungalows and semi-detached homes on the hillsides often have generous timber: roof structures, decking, staircases, panelling and large built-in wardrobes. Many back onto slopes or forest, where termite colonies live undisturbed and forage towards the nearest building.
In established areas like Ampang Jaya, Taman Dagang and Pandan Indah, terraces that have been extended and renovated over the years are common. Termites use the joints between old and new floor slabs, cracks at the base of walls and gaps around pipes to come up from the soil.
Condominiums around Ampang Point and along the main roads can get termites through planter boxes and service shafts. We inspect high-rise units as well as landed homes.

Signs of termites in Ampang homes
Termites work out of sight, so most homeowners only notice them once there is damage. These are the signs our technicians look for first during an inspection.
1
Mud tubes on walls
Pencil-width tunnels of soil on walls, floors, pillars or foundations. Termites build them to stay moist while they travel between the soil and your house.
2
Tunnels under tiles and timber
Lift a loose floor tile or move timber that touches the ground and you may find soil trails or galleries underneath. Subterranean termites live and travel underground.
3
Holes in garden trees
Termites hollow out tree trunks, stumps and roots. Small holes or soil-filled cracks in a trunk usually mean a colony is close to the house.
4
Soil packed into cracks
Soil pressed into cracks, joints or gaps around door and window frames. Termites seal openings this way to keep out light and dry air.
5
Hollow-sounding wood
Tap door frames, skirting boards and cabinets. Wood that sounds papery or gives under a screwdriver is often eaten from the inside. You may also hear faint clicking in walls.
6
Frass (termite droppings)
Tiny pellets that look like sawdust or coffee grounds, often under furniture or door frames. This points to drywood termites inside the timber.
7
Discarded wings
Small wings of equal size near windows, lights or door sills. Flying termites (alates, or kelkatu) shed them after swarming, usually at dusk after rain.
Spraying kills the termites you can see. Sentricon® goes after the whole colony, including the queen, so the problem doesn't come back from the same nest.
1
Free inspection
We find where termites are active, how they are getting in and what has been damaged, then give you a quotation. No obligation.
2
Bait stations go in
Sentricon® stations are placed in the soil around the building, plus above-ground stations on active spots indoors where needed. There is no flooding of the soil with liquid termiticide.
3
Termites carry the bait home
Worker termites feed on the bait and share it through the colony. The active ingredient stops termites from moulting, so the colony gradually dies off, queen included.
4
Monitor and protect
We check the stations, top up bait as needed and confirm when activity stops. The stations stay in place to catch any new colony that comes looking for food.
For houses next to slopes or forest, the best protection is to eliminate the colony and keep bait stations in place around the perimeter, so new colonies are intercepted before they reach the house.
Spraying a hillside home rarely solves a termite problem, because there is always another colony in the slope behind it. Sentricon® in-ground stations around the house act as an early-warning and elimination system: termites that find a station take the bait back to their colony, wherever it is.
Timber decking, pergolas and garden furniture are common in Ampang homes and are often the first thing termites reach. If they are attached to the house, they can become a bridge straight into the structure, so we check them carefully during an inspection.

Why do hillside homes in Ampang get termites so often?
Colonies live in the undisturbed soil on slopes and forest edges and forage towards the nearest building. Perimeter bait stations intercept them.
Is the termite inspection in Ampang free?
Yes. The inspection and quotation are free, with no obligation.
Termites are in my timber decking. Will they reach the house?
They can, especially if the decking touches the house or the soil around it. We check decking, pergolas and garden timber during the inspection and treat the colony so it can't spread into the building.
