About termites
What is anai-anai in English?
Anai-anai is the Malay word for termites. In Malaysia they are also widely called "white ants", although they are not ants. In Chinese they are 白蚁 or 白蚂蚁. Read termites in Malaysia: the complete guide.
What are the signs of termites in a house?
Mud tubes on walls or floors, hollow-sounding timber, soil packed into cracks, frass that looks like sawdust, discarded wings near windows and lights, and holes in garden trees. See 7 signs of termites.
Are flying termites a sign of infestation?
Often, yes. Flying termites (alates, or kelkatu) come from a mature colony. If they swarm inside your home, a colony is likely nearby or already in the building. See flying termites.
Do termites bite people?
Termites are not dangerous to people. Soldier termites can nip if handled, but they don't attack humans, spread disease or sting. The danger is to your timber and property.
Treatment
How does Sentricon® work?
Bait stations are placed in the soil around the building and on active spots indoors. Worker termites feed on the bait and share it with the colony. The bait stops termites from moulting, so the colony gradually dies off, queen included. See the termite baiting system.
How long does termite treatment take to work?
With baiting, colony elimination usually takes from a few weeks to a few months, depending on colony size and how actively termites feed. We monitor until activity stops.
Why not just spray the termites?
Spray kills the termites it touches but rarely reaches the colony, which can be metres away underground. The colony survives and termites return. See how to get rid of termites.
Do I need to move out during treatment?
No. Bait stations don't require you to leave your home, empty cupboards or stop trading.
Do new houses need anti-termite treatment?
In most of the Klang Valley, it is strongly recommended, because the soil under a slab can't be treated properly after it is cast. See anti-termite treatment.
