What we find in Cheras homes
In the older tamans closer to KL, such as Taman Connaught, Taman Midah and Taman Segar, many terrace houses have been extended and renovated over the years. Termites often enter at the joint between the original house and the extension, and then move into roof timbers, door frames and built-in cabinets.
Further out, in places like Bandar Mahkota Cheras and Cheras Perdana, homes are newer and many sit close to hillsides and green areas. Subterranean termites are common in that soil, and the first sign homeowners notice is often a swarm of flying termites (kelkatu) at dusk after rain, or a kitchen cabinet that suddenly feels soft.
Cheras also has many condominiums and apartments. Termites can reach upper floors through service shafts and planter boxes, so we inspect high-rise units too.

Signs of termites in Cheras homes
Termites work out of sight, so most homeowners only notice them once there is damage. These are the signs our technicians look for first during an inspection.

Mud tubes on walls
Pencil-width tunnels of soil on walls, floors, pillars or foundations. Termites build them to stay moist while they travel between the soil and your house.

Tunnels under tiles and timber
Lift a loose floor tile or move timber that touches the ground and you may find soil trails or galleries underneath. Subterranean termites live and travel underground.

Holes in garden trees
Termites hollow out tree trunks, stumps and roots. Small holes or soil-filled cracks in a trunk usually mean a colony is close to the house.

Soil packed into cracks
Soil pressed into cracks, joints or gaps around door and window frames. Termites seal openings this way to keep out light and dry air.

Hollow-sounding wood
Tap door frames, skirting boards and cabinets. Wood that sounds papery or gives under a screwdriver is often eaten from the inside. You may also hear faint clicking in walls.

Frass (termite droppings)
Tiny pellets that look like sawdust or coffee grounds, often under furniture or door frames. This points to drywood termites inside the timber.

Discarded wings
Small wings of equal size near windows, lights or door sills. Flying termites (alates, or kelkatu) shed them after swarming, usually at dusk after rain.
Spraying kills the termites you can see. Sentricon® goes after the whole colony, including the queen, so the problem doesn't come back from the same nest.

Bait stations go in
Sentricon® stations are placed in the soil around the building, plus above-ground stations on active spots indoors where needed. There is no flooding of the soil with liquid termiticide.

Termites carry the bait home
Worker termites feed on the bait and share it through the colony. The active ingredient stops termites from moulting, so the colony gradually dies off, queen included.

Monitor and protect
We check the stations, top up bait as needed and confirm when activity stops. The stations stay in place to catch any new colony that comes looking for food.
A swarm of flying termites inside your house usually means a mature colony is nearby, possibly already in the building. It is a good moment to book an inspection.
We get a lot of calls from Cheras after evening rain, when flying termites gather around lights. The swarmers themselves don't eat wood, but they come from a colony that does, and if they emerge from inside a wall, a cabinet or the floor, termites are already in the structure.
